Censorship means that we will not be allowed freedom of speech all of the time. Without that we will not have a say in our own rights and freedoms, that is part of the Constitution. Then we will not know what is realy going on in the world or in our nation.
Censorship has many consequences. First of all, censorship is, in some way, an invasion of individual privacy and expression. Censorship causes people to be limited in the amount of thought they are free to express, causing their feelings to become altered and unnatural. Also, censorship of speeches, news reports, books, etc. poses danger to the public because they are not receiving accurate information, causing them to misunderstand what is actually going on in their society.
The consequences of censorship are that we will not be able to express our opinions, basically our rights are being taken away. We won't have any freedom to do whatever we want. So this SOPA act us useless to me! If they go through with this, then that means there's no use for the internet anymore since everything on there has some sort of copyright material. I saw a funny phrase the other day that said: "That awkward moment when America uses it's freedom to try to censor freedom."
Isn't that quite accurate? I'm laughing at this "act".
For example, censorship goes against the Constitution of the United States of America: - The First Amendment protects, “the students’ right to know and the teachers’ right to academic freedom.” - Censors set a bad example by contesting rights from the First Amendment. - The censors have no respect for the student’s or the teacher’s rights.
Censorship is holding back information so people will not know about it. Censorship does prevent our freedom of speech and rights. The Constitution clearly states that we have freedom of speech and rights. Without freedom of speech, we don’t get to speak our minds. Many ways that people speak their mind is through books, magazines, speeches, ext. With censorship, we would not have the right to speak, or know about the issues of our country. Censorship could eventually lead to a dictatorship, but that won’t happen because our freedom of speech and other rights are protected by the Constitution.
dmkddfun ~ I agree with your statement that censorship invades our privacy. As one of our rights, privacy should be protected and remain private.
Ariana ~ If our country is censored, then I also believe that our rights are being taken away. With rights, we have freedom to do whatever we want. Of course we have to obey the law and not murder, but we can speak our mind freely.

Negative effect of Censorship
